3 tips to block adult content on X
In an effort to boost engagement on the site, X (formerly Twitter) revised its content control guidelines earlier this month and made it legal to share graphic and explicit content. Many users have reported viewing unwelcome explicit content on a daily basis, despite the social media company's claims that it has a policy prohibiting users under the age of 18 and those who haven't specified their birthdate from seeing such postings by classifying them as "sensitive content."
Highlights:
- Adjust settings to hide or warn about explicit media under "Privacy and safety" > "Content you see" > "Sensitive Media."
- Mute specific words like "porn" under "Privacy and Safety" > "Mute and Block" > "Muted words."
- Set your account age to under 18 or omit your birthdate to block adult content.
Keep sensitive media hidden
Users can choose to conceal or warn about explicit material or postings that graphically portray violence using the X app on iOS and Android.
1. Open X on your phone and navigate to the Settings on the left panel to locate the toggle.
2. Select "Content you see" after tapping on "Privacy and safety."
3. Select "Sensitive Media" from the screen that displays.
4. Tap the "Adult content" box and select "Warn" or "Never show this."
Eliminate specific words
You might need to mute some terms, such as "porn," because not all adult content will be classified as "sensitive media." When you mute a word, X will even conceal posts from appearing on your Home timeline and stop notifying you of posts that contain the term.
1. Go to the "Privacy and Safety" section of the app's settings after opening it.
2. Select the "Muted words" option after tapping on "Mute and Block."
3. To add the terms or phrases you no longer wish to see on the platform, click the Plus icon in the lower right corner.
Consider making your account under 18
X claims that the platform won't display any adult or pornographic content to you if you set your date of birth to under 18 or don't provide it while registering a new account. Therefore, if you want to deliberately stay away from any adult content on the network, avoiding providing your birthdate or making it appear as though you are under 18 is also a useful alternative.
